PESHAWAR, May 21: Armed men broke into a bank in Malak Nadeem Plaza located at Dalazak Road on Monday morning and decamped with about Rs0.7 million and a laptop, a source said.
A bank source said two dacoits in the garb of customers entered the MCB branch at 10am, followed by two of their accomplices who overpowered the security guard at the main gate.
The source said the robbers came on a white car parked outside the bank. He said the robbers collected the cash from the counter and decamped, also taking with them the pistol of the security guard.
The source the cash was limited as business activities had not yet picked up. However, the bank’s manger Saeek Khan in his report to investigators at the Paharipura police station said that the dacoits had looted Rs651,000. He said that the bank staff had been made hostage at gunpoint. He said that five armed men were involved in the crime, who could be identified if presented to the staff.
The police said that efforts were made to identify the robbers trough the close circuit television cameras.
