ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s interior minister on Saturday revealed that police had foiled a plot to attack parliament during a presidential address and said a finance ministry official had been arrested.

“I commend the Islamabad police, they have foiled a plot to attack the parliament during president’s address to the joint session,” Rehman Malik told reporters.

He was talking to media representative after chairing a high-level meeting here to review the overall security situation in the country.

“Police has arrested a suspect and an official of the finance ministry involved in the plot.”

The interior minister said the arrested terrorists belonged to Miranshah, North Waziristan. The employee of the foreign ministry had been arrested for extending assistance to the terrorists, he said.

President Asif Ali Zardari had addressed the joint sitting of the federal parliament on March 17 amid tight security.
