ISLAMABAD: The government and the opposition on Wednesday succeeded to build some consensus over a smooth passage of the 20th Amendment Bill in the Natioanal Assembly, DawnNews reported.
The representatives of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) held talks earlier today but failed to end the deadlock and decided to meet again in the evening.
The two sides had agreed late on Tuesday to meet today ahead of the evening’s National Assembly session to reach a consensus over a caretaker set-up for holding the upcoming general elections.
Speaking to media representatives at his chamber in the Parliament House, the Opposition Leader in NA Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said that the deadlock over caretaker setup has been removed. “Tomorrow will be a make or break day for the talks,” he added.
However, Nisar said it was premature to talk about the bill before it was passed by the parliament.
PPP leader Khursheed Shah said that they will inform the nation about outcome of negotiations after taking party leadership into confidence.
He said working on draft of the bill was in progress. “Vital progress was achieved in today’s talks,” Shah added.
He said that Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani was still needed to be briefed about the proceedings, adding that the draft of the bill will be submitted to parliament in couple of day’s time.
Sources also corroborated that the decisive session of the talks would be held tomorrow on Thursday.
