KARACHI, Jan 16: The Monday session of the Sindh Assembly was adjourned for Tuesday soon after Fateha was offered for a sitting member of the assembly, Syed Mohsin Ali Shah Bokhari, who had died a couple of days back.

Adjourning the 25-minute session, which began an hour and 10 minutes behind the scheduled time of 10am as mentioned on the order of the day, Speaker Nisar Ahmed Khuhro said normal business of the house would be taken up on Wednesday since Tuesdaywas reserved as private members' day.

Paying tribute to the late colleague, Mr Khuhro said Mr Bokhari had won all but one election since he started contesting polls in 1988 and had always played a very productive role in the house. He said as it was a tradition that when a sitting member died the house was adjourned, the session was being adjourned.

Fateha was also offered for those killed in a bomb blast in a Chehlum procession in Khanpur(Rahimyar Khan), IT prodigy Arfa Karim, and others.

A report of the standing committee on irrigation and power regarding unpaid electricity bills by rural consumers that was to be presented in the session would now be presented in the next session.

The report was prepared on a resolution by Mujadid Isran. The resolution reads: 'The assembly resolves and recommends to the Sindh government to approach the federal government to direct theHESCO to recover the arrears / dues of electricity from agriculture and domestic consumers of the rural areas of Sindh who could not clear their dues owing to financial constraints during the period of January to March when the consumers are able to clear their dues.

The committee, headed by Arif Mustafa Jatoi, after deliberations had revised the resolution as follows: 'This assembly resolves and recommends to the Sindh government to approach the federal gov-ernment to direct the HESCO that the current practice of recovering arrears / dues of electricity from agriculture and domestic consumers of rural areas of Sindh who could not clear their dues owing to financial constraints in the month of June may be disconnected and any arrears should be recovered in the month of March without penalty or disconnection of service.

A report of the subcommittee on revenue, headed by Fida Hussain Dero, regarding the cancellation ofSt Andrew's Church land was also to be presented in the session.

Both reports were initially to be presented in the Friday (Jan 13) session, which was also adjourned owing to the death of Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara, would now probably be presented in the next session.

In both sessions, the question hour was regarding the relief department, which is headed by chief minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, but Mr Shah attended neither Friday's session nor Monday's.
