LAHORE, Sept 15: The All-Pakistan Textile Mills Association has taken responsibility for 10,000 flood-affected families of Badin and Sanghar promising to provide them shelter, medicines and food till their rehabilitation.

Aptma Chairman Gohar Ejaz told reporters here on Thursday that the association's central managing committee (CMC) had decided to arrange resources for this purpose.

He said the relief work would start immediately and Aptma members would personally supervise the relief operation.

Mr Ejaz said thousands of tents would be arranged to provide shelter to at least 70,000 flood-hit people in Badin and Sanghar.

He said all CMC members, central and zonal chairmen of Aptma would visit the flood affected regions of these two districts and supervise the relief work there.

He said CMC representatives, including Yasin Siddique, Saleem Shakoor, Khurram Ashfaq and Tariq Saood, would reach the affected districts from Karachi; SM Bashir, Shahzad Ali Khan and Ali Ahsan from Lahore; Umar Nazar Shah from Faisalabad and Seth Akbar from Multan to supervise the relief work.

Aptma's Sindh chapter head Shahzad Ali Khan praised the Aptma chairman for taking this initiative, saying it was the corporate social responsibility of all trade associations to help flood victims.

He said the Aptma would give one month's ration to 10,000 families besides providing shelter and kitchen fuel.

He said the ration would include 20kg flour, 7kg ghee/edible oil, 10kg rice, 7kg pulses, two packs of 250 gram tea, 3kg dry milk, four packets of biscuits, 20 panadol tablets, 10 ORS packets besides blankets, tents and burners.
