KARACHI: A special bench of the Supreme Court on Monday heard the suo motu case on the killings in Karachi, DawnNews reported.

The bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, comprises of Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani, Justice Amer Hani Muslim and Justice Ghulam Rabbani.

During the hearing, the court said that the material that the court had sufficient material to proceed on the case.

Chief Justice Iftikhar expressed displeasure on the absence of Attorney General Maulvi Anwarul Haq from today's proceeding.

Moreover, Chief Justice Iftikhar directed the Advocate General to submit a video on the incidents of violence in Karachi. He further said that details of suspects arrested during the operation should be presented before the court.

Chief Justice Iftikhar said that the court wanted to get to the bottom of the unrest that had plagued the metropolis.

During the hearing, Inspector General Sindh Police Wajid Durrani arrived at the court with details of the operation.

On the subject of Zulfikar Mirza, Justice Jamali asked why Mr Mirza did not speak up when he knew everything all along.

Separately, the counsel for the Awami National Party (ANP) said that Mr Mirza should be summoned before the court.

The hearing was subsequently adjourned to September 6.
