Krishna Janamashtami is a festival marking the birth of Hindu god Krishna. It is celebrated by Hindus throughout the world on the eighth day (Ashtami) in the month of Sravana or Savana.

Krishna is one of the most popular and adored Hindu deities and is considered the incarnation of Lord Vishnu, the protector of humans from evil and injustice.

According to Indian mythology and the Hindu holy book Puranas, Krishna is the incarnation of Lord Vishnu, who took birth to kill his maternal uncle King Kansa and free the people of Mathura and other nearby towns from his cruelty.
