KABUL: Several people were injured in an explosion outside a music cassette shop in eastern Afghanistan, Afghan police said.

General Aminullah Amirkhil, who directs the Afghan border police in four eastern provinces, said the explosion occurred Thursday morning in Jalalabad, the capital of Nangarhar province, 125 kilometres east of Kabul.

Abdullah Jan, a local driver, told The Associated Press that he saw several people, including children, injured outside the shop.

Separately, Nato reported that Afghan and coalition forces detained a Taliban operator in Behsud district of Nangarhar province on Wednesday.

The coalition said he coordinated the movement of foreign fighters into eastern Kunar province from neighbouring Pakistan.
