KARACHI: After Governor Punjab Salman Taseer's assassination by a member of his security detail, security for former minister for information and Pakistan People's Party (PPP) MNA Sherry Rehman has been increased, DawnNews reported.

The number of police officials assigned at Sherry Rehman's residence was also increased.

Salman Taseer's assassin Mumtaz Qadri confessed to killing him because of Taseer’s calls to reform the blasphemy laws.

Fears for Sherry Rehman's safety were rising after Taseer’s assassination.

SP Clifton Tariq Dharejo said Sherry Rehman's security was increased on the CCPO's directives.

In November 2010, Sherry Rehman had submitted a private member bill in the National Assembly Secretariat seeking amendments to soften the blasphemy law.

The move incurred the wrath of the country’s religious circles. No legislator had earlier submitted a similar bill due to the matter’s sensitive nature.
