KARACHI, Dec 5: A woman got seriously burnt in suspicious circumstances in Korangi on Sunday night.

Sources at the Civil Hospital said that 22-year-old Raheela, wife of Adnan, was brought to the hospital and shifted to the Burns Centre with serious burn injuries.

Hospital sources quoting the girl's father Abdul Rehman said that the woman had allegedly been burnt by a friend of her husband.

The woman's husband Adnan was said to be at his workplace when the incident happened, the sources said.

Hospital sources said that the woman had over 90 per cent burn injuries.

However, it was not clear the victim was able to record her statement to the police or not, as the area police were not aware of the incident till late on Sunday.

Till the midnight, the police station jurisdiction of the incident was being disputed as SHO of the Zaman Town Atif Shah told Dawn that the incident did not occur in his police station remit.

He said that it was a jurisdiction of the Korangi police station. However, “I am getting it checked,” the SHO added.

Earlier, SHO of Korangi Shakir Ali had expressed ignorance of the incident when this reporter called him.

Woman shot dead

A young woman was shot dead by unknown persons in Korangi on Sunday morning.

A duty officer of the Korangi Industrial Area police station said Naseema, 25, wife of Imtiaz, was shot dead by unknown persons who had barged into the house in Sector 6-G, Mehran Town.At the time of the incident, the victim's blind mother-in-law was present in the house.

Police said Naseema was shot in the head and she died on the spot.

The police shifted the body to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a postmortem examination.

Man strangled by wife A man was strangulated on Sunday allegedly by his wife within the remit of the Iqbal Market police station.

Police said Abdullah, 51, son of Badi-uz-Zaman, was strangulated to death by his wife, Shabana Naz, in Shahwaliullah Nagar, Orangi Town, Sector 11-1/2.

A duty officer of the Pakistan Bazaar police station said Shabana Naz mixed sedatives in the tea for her husband. As he fell asleep, she strangulated him with a piece of nylon rope. The police arrested Shabana.

The body was shifted to hospital for medico-legal formalities. The victim was the father of four children and worked with the Customs department.

An FIR (677/2010) under Section 302 of the PPC was registered at the Pakistan Bazaar police station on the complaint of the victim's sister, Rehana Jabeen.

Woman killed A woman was killed in mysterious circumstances in the limits of the Pirabad police station on Sunday.

Orangi Town SP Khurram Waris said the family claimed that the woman, Sadaqat, committed suicide by shooting herself in the head.

However, when the police visited the house, they found two spent bullet casings in the room where the incident took place.

“We suspect some foul play as two spent bullet casings were found in the room,” said SP Khurram Waris.

Following the incident, the body was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a postmortem examination.

Police were questioning the victim's husband, Falaknaz, over the incident till the filing of this report.

Cylinder blast A shopkeeper was killed in a cylinder blast in Landhi on Sunday.

Police said Abdul Rehman, owner of an LPG shop in Future Colony, was killed when a cylinder exploded during decanting in the shop.

Police said the victim died on the spot. His body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for legal formalities. The deceased came from Sargodha.

The sound of the blast had caused panic in the vicinity.
