MITHI, Nov 6: People of the Hindu community here on Friday commemorated Diwali (the festival of lights) with traditional fervour and enthusiasm in towns and villages of Tharparkar district.

Special prayers were offered at temples for the solidarity and progress of the country.

Girls, women, children and youths were seen wearing colourful and bright new clothes, distributing sweets and other gifts among their relatives and neighbours.

A random survey conducted by this reporter revealed that a large number of Tharis, particularly those belonging to poor and middle-class families, celebrated Diwali with simplicity because of their low purchasing power.

Magazine: A large number of people of the Soothar community attended the launching ceremony of Diwali magazine at Tharparkar in the auditorium of press club.

Soothar students of Sindh and Mehran universities compiled and published the magazine.
