KARACHI, Nov 3: The bullet-riddled body of an activist of the Afaq Ahmed-led faction of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement was found in a Korangi locality on Wednesday, police and party sources said.

The police said that the trussed-up body was found in an open plot in Bhitai Colony in Korangi within the remit of the Ibrahim Hyderi police station.

“Some people noticed the body lying abandoned in an open plot near the Fatima Jinnah Medical and Dental College in the afternoon,” said an official at the Ibrahim Hyderi police station. “The hands and legs of the victim were tied with a rope and he was shot twice in the head and abdomen.”

The body was later shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination. The victim was identified as Irfanuddin, in his mid-thirties, by his family members at the hospital.

“They said the victim went missing on Monday evening after he left his Liaquatabad home to see some friends,” the official said, adding that the body was handed over to the family after the medico-legal formalities.

Later, a spokesman for the Afaq Ahmed-led faction of the MQM — also known as Haqiqi — claimed that the victim was associated with the Korangi sector of the party. “He left the Korangi area due to threats to his life and was not in touch with the party for the last couple of months,” he added.

Former ST man gunned down

A former worker of the Sunni Tehreek was gunned down near M. A. Jinnah Road in the early hours of Wednesday, police said.

They said that 33-year-old Imran was attacked by armed motorcyclists on Jamila Street within the remit of the Nabi Bux police station.

“He was returning home in PECHS on a motorbike when he was intercepted by two men on a motorbike, who fired a single shot that hit him in the head and escaped,” said an official at the Nabi Bux police station. “He died on the spot…the body was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi for a post-mortem examination.”

He said the victim was a jeweler by profession and owned shops in Kharadar and Sarafa Bazaar.

The police said that it was not an incident of mugging.

“The assailants did not take away the cellphone or any other valuable from the victim. They escaped after executing their job,” the official added.

The Sunni Tehreek said that Irman was associated with the party, but his membership was suspended some two months ago for violating party discipline.
