Land dispute claims 2 lives
SWABI, Nov 2: Two persons were killed when rival groups opened fire at each other here on Tuesday, police said.
The incident occurred in Topi tehsil. One group belonged to Kotha region and other to Topi.
Bakhat Taj, along with other colleagues, was working at a crushing machine when his rival party led by Rookh Afsar reached there. The two groups exchanged hot words and then opened fire over each other.
The firing continued for sometime as a result Bakhat Taj was killed on the spot while Afsar was inured. He was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The cause of the incident was stated to be a dispute over piece of land. — Correspondent
Tests, interviews cancelled
KOHAT, Nov 2: The tests and interviews for paramedics posts scheduled to be held on Nov 4 have been cancelled indefinitely.
The director general, health, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in a notification said the said interviews had been canceled and fresh date would be announced soon. — Correspondent
‘Violation of merit’
PESHAWAR, Nov 2: The Pakhtun Students Federation (Azad) has alleged violation of merit in the appointments of wardens at the University of Peshawar and has warned of agitation against what it called nepotism and favoritism.
In a press statement on Tuesday, the PkSF (Azad) campus president alleged that the varsity had appointed five wardens in violation of merit.
He said students who had earned gold medals from the varsity had been denied jobs and those ranked very low on merit list were given jobs.
He also said that PkSF (Azad) was not associated with any political party or organisation and its activists were striving for the rights of deserving students. — Bureau Report
Admission to medical colleges
PESHAWAR, Nov 2: The admission to medical and dental colleges has started in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
A spokesman said here on Tuesday that 120 students had so far been interviewed and admitted on merit to public sector medical and dental colleges. The process will continue till Nov 14 and the classes will start from Nov 25, he added.
It was stated the process was being supervised by a joint admission committee headed by Prof Dr Sultan Mahmood, Principal KMC, while principals of all medical and dental colleges would be its members.
The students intending to appear in the interview have been advised to be accompanied by their parents or guardian along with original documents. — Bureau Report
Students hold demo
TIMERGARA, Nov 2: The Peoples Students Federation, Lower Dir, on Tuesday demanded of the government to immediately transfer principal of the postgraduate college Timergara and SHO of the Balambat police station. Speaking at a news conference here president of PSF Shahab Utmani alleged principal of the Timergara college had been involved in student politics.
He said police used batons against peaceful students when they protested against the college’s principal and also were mistreated by Dir Scouts personnel when they gathered outside DCO office to voice their concerns.
He said, five PSF workers sustained injuries when police charged them with sticks and stones. Earlier students marched from the college to Balambat, chanting slogans against the college principal and police. — Correspondent
Inter-zonal games
TIMERGARA, Nov 2: The inter-zonal games competitions among government and private middle schools in Lower Dir started at Sehsada on Tuesday, sources in education department told Dawn.
The sources said the elementary and secondary education department had been supervising these competitions. The games include cricket, hockey, basketball, volley ball, badminton, race, debates and speeches. These games would continue till Nov 10. Earlier games’ competitions were held at zonal levels which were held from Oct 22 to Oct 29 on grounds of different schools in the district.
The winning teams in the zones are playing in the ongoing inter-zonal competitions.
The sources said government middle school Baroon Timergara defeated cricket team of the government middle school Soghalay Talash zone while government middle school Utala Dushkhel lost its badminton match to Sihsada zone. — Correspondent

PESHAWAR, Nov 2: Pesco announced on Tuesday that due to maintenance work supply will remain suspended from 132kv Peshawar University grid station today (Wednesday) from 8am to 2pm, troubling consumers of 11kv Old Hayatabad feeder.
A Pesco statement said supply will remain suspended from 132kv Peshawar University grid station today from 8am to 1pm, disturbing consumers of 11kv Abdara feeder.
Supply will remain suspended from 132kv Peshawar University grid station the same day from 8am to 2pm, affecting consumers of 11kv Taj Abad feeder.
Supply would remain suspended from 132kv Shahi Bagh grid station today from 8am to 2pm, inconveniencing consumers of 132kv Shahi Bagh, 66kv Badbher and Mathani grids.
Supply will remain suspended from132kv Bannu grid station on Wednesday and Thursday from 8am to 12 noon, bothering consumers of 11kv Cantt-1, City-I, II, III, Jani Khel-I and Bunnu woolen mills feeders.—Bureau Report
