KARACHI, Oct 7: The government ordered closure of all tombs and mausoleums in the city for public security following the twin bombings at the Abdullah Shah Ghazi shrine on Thursday.

Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza said the decision was taken considering the level of threat to the holy places.

“In fact, we had enhanced the security of Abdullah Shah Ghazi shrine after the July attack on Data Darbaar in Lahore,” he told journalists while visiting the shrine an hour after the blasts.“But it is always a challenging task to secure such places, which are visited by thousands of people everyday. That's why we have sealed tombs across the city,” he said, adding that security of holy places would be revisited and extra measures would be taken to protect the lives of devotees.

He said: “Those behind such acts are enemies of the country and Islam. They are not serving Islam but tarnishing the image of the religion of peace,” he added.

He said that tombs would be reopened after the implementation of a proper security plan to avoid such incident in the future.

The minister said the level of terrorism threat was there in almost every part of the country.
