Old woman killed on road

ATTOCK, Sept 8: An old woman was killed in a road accident on G.T. Road here on Wednesday.

Police said Sultana Bibi was the crossing road near Gondal village when a pickup hit her, killing her on the spot.

The Attock Khurd police registered a case against the driver identified as Ghafran Ali.—Correspondent

‘Outlaw’ dies in encounter

GUJAR KHAN, Sept 8: An alleged outlaw was killed during an encounter with police in Dhoke Hayat Ali area of Gujar Khan city on Wednesday while his accomplices escaped, the locals of the area said.

According to the sources, while the police party and the gang were exchanging fire, people were seen running for cover.

Later, a police van was seen shifting the injured Mohammad Zubair to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, an eyewitness said.

According to police, Zubair and his accomplices were planning a robbery in a graveyard.

When the police team attempted to surround the gang from different directions they opened fire at the police while escaping.

The police party fired on the alleged robbers in self-defence while chasing them and Zubair was injured during the crossfire. —Correspondent

Man murdered

TALAGANG, Sept 8: A man was murdered in the Lawah village of Talagang tehsil, police said on Wednesday.

Mohammad Nawaz reported to the police that his brother Sher Khan had contracted second marriage recently.

On Tuesday evening, he was informed that his brother had been murdered in his house.

Nawaz said he reached the house and found his brother in a pool of blood.

The complainant alleged that his brother was killed by his second wife with the help of one Fateh Khan with whom she had allegedly developed illicit relations. The police registered a case and are investigating.—Correspondent

Seized goods to be auctioned

RAWALPINDI, Sept 8: The anti-encroachment staff of the Rawal Town Municipal Administration (RTMA) on Wednesday imposed fine of Rs62,000 on 62 shopkeepers for encroachment and seized goods displayed on footpaths.

The RTMA spokesman said on the directives of Rawal Town Administrator Talat Mehmood Gondal, the anti-encroachment team conducted raids on different markets and bazaars including Raja Bazaar, Liaquat Road, College Road, Commercial Market, Satellite Town, Bara Bazaar, Jinnah Road, Jamia Masjid Road, Saidpur Road, Benazir Bhutto Road, Sadiqabad and Muslim Town.

The spokesman said the administrator had ordered that the seized goods, which had been shifted to the RTMA stores, would be auctioned off and the revenue earned would be spent on the welfare of citizens.

He said the team also removed 500 signboards from different parts of the city.—A Reporter

NHMP plan for Eid holidays

RAWALPINDI, Sept 8: The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) have finalised a traffic and security plan for Eid holidays.

Deputy Inspector General N-5 North Zone Abbas Hussain Malick said majority of people used G.T. Road N-5 North Zone during Eid holidays along with valuables.

A plan has been finalised to ensure extra patrolling to monitor the traffic flow. Filming of passengers on all the toll plazas on N-5 North Zone will be ensured to protect them from robbers and swindlers, he added.

The DIG also asked owners of bus terminals and transport associations to depute security guards in their respective terminals to ensure security.—APP

Weekly bazaars

ISLAMABAD, Sept 8: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Wednesday notified that weekly Friday bazaar at H-9 and weekly Sunday bazaar at G-6, G-10 and H-9 will remain closed on September 10-12 on account of Eidul Fitr. — APP
