KARACHI, Jan 24 Railways and Pakistan Air Force (PAF) managed to stop both Karachi outfits, Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) and Sindh Government Press (SGP), from progressing beyond the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) League (department phase) semi-finals on Saturday.

The first match at the Peoples Sports Complex, Karachi, saw Railways edging past SSGC 1-0.

After a barren first half, Railways managed to strike in the 59th minute. International striker Zaheer Abbas dodged two defenders to steer the ball into the left corner past the keeper.

The match was supervised by referee Iqbal Junior and match commissioner Yaqoob Baloch.

According to information received here, the second match at PAF Sports Complex, Peshawar, between PAF and SGP also witnessed a goalless first half after which PAF scored twice to win the match 2-0.

The 56th minute saw PAF scoring through a penalty kick given to them due to SGP's handball infringement. The penalty was converted by PAF's spearhead Mohammad Iqbal. The lead was consolidated in the 84th minute by winger Mohammad Zeeshan.

The final will be played at the Jinnah Stadium, Islamabad at 2.00pm, on January 31. The winner in the final earns a place in Pakistan Premier League 2009.
