NORTH Korea’s threat to the US is cause of serious concern for the world. Once again there are discourses among non-nuclear countries that question the right of the nine nuclear countries to have nuclear arsenals.

If the answer is in avoiding nuclear blackmail, then all non-nuclear countries would like to acquire the same as a deterrent. Then reorganised nuclear countries have no right to oppose their drive to produce nuclear weapons.

The nuclear crisis will continue to disturb the peace of the world unless all nuclear countries decide collectively to abolish nuclear arsenal and then advise all other counties to refrain from acquiring nuclear weapons as these are weapons of mass destruction and no other country in the world has it as a deterrent.

David Cameron’s justification of his country to have nuclear weapons as the best assurance to avoid nuclear blackmail is of double standards. This stance will persuade non-nuclear countries to work toward acquiring nuclear weapons that may, one day, trigger a nuclear device causing mass destruction and disintegration of the world To avoid the nuclear race, it is incumbent upon all nuclear countries to abolish their nuclear stock and then persuade all to resolve their differences, of any nature, through dialogue and talks rather than dragging countries in war, destroying world peace.

Although there is a process of nuclear disarmament and abolishment, it has not been acted upon properly for the ablution of world from nuclear devices.

Clearly, something has changed since for this step to have been taken and there are shifts in the balance of power within.
