KARACHI, April 7: The scrutiny of nomination papers of thousands of candidates was completed by their respective returning officers in the city on Sunday during the second phase of the general elections scheduled to be held on May 11.

The election process will enter its third phase from Monday when appeals against acceptance or rejection of the nomination forms will be filed till April 10, which will be decided by April 17.

The ROs in the Karachi’s Central, East, Malir districts had completed the scrutiny process, while work was still going on in the West and South districts till late in the night.

Karachi has 20 national assembly and 42 provincial assembly seats.

Official said that the highest number of nomination papers was filed in NA-253 and PS-126, respectively. Forty-eight nomination papers were filed in NA-253, while 67 candidates filed nominations on PS-126.

After completion of the scrutiny process, names of the candidates were displayed outside the offices of the respective ROs.

The officials said that in district Central 98 nomination papers were filed for five general seats of the National Assembly (NA-243 to NA-247). Of them, 92 were accepted and six were rejected.

They said that total 251 nomination papers were filed against 10 seats of the Sindh Assembly (PS-98 to PS-107) in district Central and 231 of them accepted and 20 were rejected.

A total of 160 nominations were filed on five NA seats (NA-252 to NA-256) of district East and 134 of them were accepted, while 26 rejected. For 12 PA seats in the said district, a total of 423 nominations were received. Of them, 350 were accepted and 73 were rejected for want of documents.

In district Malir, 74 nominations were filed on two NA seats (NA-257 and NA-258). Sixty-one forms were accepted while 13 were rejected.

A total of 229 nominations were submitted for four PA seats (PS-127 to PS-130) in Malir and 208 were accepted while 21 rejected.

Out of total four NA seats (NA-239 to NA-242) in district West, record of only two constituencies (NA-239 and NA-242) was available till late in the night. A total of 43 nominations were filed for NA-239. Thirty-eight were accepted and five were rejected. In NA- 242, a total of 19 nominations were received and 13 of them were accepted.

In district South, there are total four NA constituencies (NA-248 to NA-250). Twenty-two nominations were filed for NA-248 and 21 were accepted. In NA-249, out of 20 nominations papers, 18 were accepted and two were rejected. Similarly in NA- 251, out of 29 candidates, nomination forms of 23 were accepted while six were rejected.
