KARACHI: Two election tribunals formed in the Sindh High Court are set to start hearing appeals against rejection and acceptance of nomination papers of the candidates for the upcoming general elections.

One of the tribunals comprising Justices Ahmed Ali M. Sheikh and Salahuddin Panhwar and Riazal Ali Sahar will hear appeals of NA-198 Sukkur-I to NA-212 Naushahro Feroze-II, NA-215 Khairpur-I to NA-217 Khairpur-II, PS-1 Sukkur-I to PS-23 Naushahro Feroze-V, PS-29-29 Khairpur-I to PS-42 Kamber-Shahdadkot-III (old Larkana-VIII) and reserved seats for non-Muslims in the Sindh Assembly.

The other tribunal comprising Justices Faisal Arab, Ghulam Sarwar Korai and Munib Akhtar will dispose of appeals relating to NA-213 Benazirabad-I (old Nawabshah-I) and NA-214 Benazirabad-II (Old Nawabshah-II), NA-218 Matiari-cum-Hyderabad (old Hyderabad-I) to NA-258 Malir-cum-Karachi West, PS-24 Benazirabad to PS-28, PS-43 to PS-130 and reserved seats for women in the National Assembly and the Sindh Assembly.

With the approval of President Asif Ali Zardari, the Election Commission of Pakistan had formed nine appellate tribunals across the country for disposing of appeals against rejection or acceptance of nomination papers for the upcoming elections.

The appeals against rejection or acceptance of the nomination papers will be filed by April 9 and they will be disposed of by the tribunals by April 16.

Official sources said that the two tribunals were expe-cted to start hearing the election appeals from Tuesday.—Staff Reporter
