THE celebration of Pakistan Day on March 23 this year by the people was outstanding for various reasons, three of which were prominent.

The first and foremost was that the people, particularly the poorest of the poor, heaved a sigh of relief that now they got rid of the rulers during whose reign the life of the common man was affected by rising poverty, soaring inflation, unemployment, etc.

The second was that the country is going to have the much awaited general elections on May 11 under the supervision of an impartial Election Commission, led by a person who is popularly and lovingly known and called Fakhru Bhai, an independent, vibrant and credible Supreme Court headed by a very bold and popular Chief Justice Iftihar Muhammad Chaudhry, a strong non-partisan military commander, Gen Pervez Kayani, and a neutral caretaker prime minister, Justice (r) Mir Hazar Khoso.

The third was a mammoth gathering at the PTI’s public meeting) at Minar-i-Pakistan, where Imran Khan made six significant promises to the nation.

These promises may, if honestly implemented, bring the much desired change in the Quiad’s Pakistan.
