LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q)’s Punjab chapter held intra-party elections on Wednesday, after which deputy prime minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi was unanimously elected provincial party president, DawnNews reported.

Chaudhry Zaheeruddin was appointed the provincial general secretary.

The newly appointed Punjab president said PML-Q is a democratic party, and credited his party with the government’s success in completing its five year tenure.

Earlier this month, the Election Commission of Pakistan issued instructions to 103 political parties to hold intra-party elections.

The PML-Q and Dr Tahirul Qadri’s Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT) were among the parties instructed by the election commission.

The commission had said that those parties which have not conducted intra-party polls and which have not submitted details of assets will not be allotted with election symbols.
