The rapid bus transit project in Lahore is progressing fast.
If this project is successful in time, it will help commuters immensely.
Shahbaz Sharif should take another step of introducing a tax system on cars and promoted the bus system by lowering bus fares.
The benefit of this scheme would be that people would resist from bringing their cars on roads due to the fear of paying tax on them.
They will prefer to travel by bus.
This would decrease the load of traffic on roads.

You do realise Pakistan is one of the toughest places for somebody from the middle class to own a new car already? Take a gander kindly at the route of the new bus track and the map of the city at least before declaring what "ought be". What's with Pakistanis and this mentality of restricting rather than facilitating others & themselves? Please stop trying to implement what you read in foreign books on the desi lab rat that is our society.

A road tax for private vehicles on congested routes would certainly discourage unnecessary car/motorcycle usage, we should also consider mandatory bicycle lanes and safe footpaths.

Tax should be on kilometers driven, not just keeping the car for leisure purposes.

Momina, you need to take shower twice in a day thus increasing the use of water already a scarce commodity.

This so hyped up bus is only covering one road route of Lahore, without a proper mass transport system, cars cant be replaced. Once you have in place a better Metro/train system in place, people will automatically switch to easier mode of transport instead of traffic chaos driving by cars.
So think before you make sweeping statments, cars are already heavily taxed from excise when buying and daily via taxes slapped on fuel.
