ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) agreed on Wednesday to meet the government delegation that had negotiated with Tehrik-i-Minhajul Quran (TMQ) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri, DawnNews reported.

The ECP held a meeting on Wednesday chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd) Fakhruddin G Ibrahim to discuss arrangements for the upcoming general elections.

The government delegation, that had met with the TMQ chief on Jan 16 and had negotiated an agreement between the two parties, had requested to meet the CEC to brief him over the declaration.

DawnNews qupted sources as saying that Justice (retd) Fakhruddin accepted the delegation's request and summoned the delegation for a meeting on Thursday.

The other topics on the meeting's agenda included the electoral code of conduct, dual nationality, fake degrees, Karachi's delimitation and voters' list verification.

The meeting was also expected to discuss the legal and constitutional status of the declaration signed by TMQ chief Dr Tahirul Qadri and representatives from the Pakistan People's Party-led federal government.

Earlier on Tuesday Justice (retd) Fakhruddin had said that Karachi's delimitation of constituencies was not possible before the upcoming general elections, pointing out that the absence of fresh census might make it impossible to implement the Supreme Court order in this regard.
