'Junaid and Irfan outclassed India'

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan one-day captain Misbah-ul-Haq on Monday credited left-arm fast bowleder Junaid Khan and Mohammad Irfan for the 2-1 series victory over India, the team's first win in India in seven years.

Irfan and Khan combined for 11 wickets in the series and destroyed the top order batting lineup in all the three matches. Khan claimed the key wicket of Virat Kohli for 0, 6 and 7 in all the three matches which severely jolted the Indian middle order. Kohli was adjudged ICC's ODI player of the year in 2012 while scoring 1,733 runs in 31 ODI matches including eight centuries.

''The way they (Irfan and Khan) have performed, it shows they have a bright future,'' Misbah said. ''They proved against the world's best batting lineup and simply outclassed them for a huge win.''

India averted its first ever whitewash at the hands of Pakistan when it successfully defended a small total of 167 in New Delhi to win by 10 runs.

Misbah said he had aimed for the clean sweep and that was the reason he didn't used the bench strength like fast bowlers Anwar Ali and Wahab Riaz despite taking a decisive 2-0 lead after victories in Chennai and Kolkata.

''We were not relaxed (at New Delhi), we were determined to win the third match and that was the reason we didn't make changes,'' he said. ''But we should give credit to the other team as they fought very well.''

Pakistan's new batting sensation, Nasir Jamshed, scored back-to-back centuries at Chennai and Kolkata. Private TV channel Geo reported that the left-hander forgot his man of the series trophy at the team hotel when the team left for the airport on Monday.

Pakistan was also impressive in drawing the Twenty20 series 1-1. After winning by five wickets at Bangalore, Pakistan threatened to chase down a target of 193 at Ahmedabad before falling short by 11 runs.

Twenty20 captain Mohammad Hafeez hoped that Pakistan's performance in India will open doors of reviving international cricket in Pakistan.

''We showed how good we are,'' Hafeez said.

''I hope after this performance the ICC and rest of the cricketing world will think about reviving international cricket in Pakistan.''

No foreign team has toured Pakistan since gunmen attacked the Sri Lanka team bus at Lahore in 2009 and Pakistan has played its ''home'' series mainly in the United Arab Emirates.

Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Zaka Ashraf, who also attended the ODI series, said he was hopeful of India's return tour to Pakistan this year and denied reports that India has refused to play in Pakistan.

''Cricket diplomacy is going on with India,'' he said. ''The day is not far when India too will come to Pakistan and I am quite hopeful.''

Pakistan suffered a huge setback when Bangladesh postponed its tour to Pakistan for the second time in 10 months. Ashraf met with Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan in New Delhi on Sunday and was still optimistic the tour will take place.

''Bangladesh tour is not off, it's very much on,'' Ashraf said. ''We are in talks with them about the dates of the series.''

Pakistan bowlers were awesome and deserve all the praise. Pakistan is lucky to have such good bowlers. Despite Amir and Asif not being available, still Pakistan produces bowlers of such quality. Beating India in India is very difficult for any team and moreover India are the world champions in ODIs

raika45....your comments are coming from a true indian. We Pakistanis don't even come close to bashing our own team for losing a game than what the indian media does to the indian cricket team. Plus, this is a moment of joy for Pakistanis to have beaten india IN india and knock some sense into them.

Mr. Ashraf, the Politician of Bangladesh will never let the Bangladesh team tour Pakistan, wakeup, how long will you keep this hope up it is not ICC or BCB just like all the other Asian country run by their Political Pundits who has hijack this sports in Asia, once the Politician are not allowed to interfere in sports all cricketing ties will fall in place, did you see when Pakistan won the Asia Cup the prime minister left the stadium she was there to congratulate the winning team and hand over the trophies, what sports has to do with the Political relationship between the two countries all sports should be independent, there should not be any political influence in sports in Asia. ICC should ban the country from all sports which influenced by their political guru's

Frankly, as an Indian, as a Hindu, losing to Pakistan is unacceptable. Anyways I do expect the Indian team to come back the way they did against Brett Lee and McGrath after the initial trashing by aussie pace attack years ago. If these bowlers from Pak could do so well on flat Indian tracks, I think they will be unplayable on seaming tracks of the West..congrats Pakistan..We need Gary Kirsten back to advice our losers right now!!!

This was unwanted series setup by the request of Pakistani president. Indian players were too tired. Also 2-1 marigin cannot be called outclass. It could be 2-3 had it been 5 matches series. Agree Pak player batter, but not much different.

We are not the best, even after this victory...Until they beat each country like Aussies did 6 - 7 yaers, only than one can claim to be the best. Pakistan has good bowlers, but they need to improve a lot in other departments. Not best by any standards....

The semifinal and the finals in the ODI world cup looked fixed otherwise India would not be teh world champion. BCCI is using every tactic to collect trophies for an ordinary Indian team. the granting of Man of Match to Dhoni in the two matches was also disgraceful to say the least.

I was wondering after Amir and Asif who will replace them and how long it will take for PCB to find talented bowlers.... In this series I must say that it was a delight to watch Khan in particular because the way he runs in and move the ball in both directions was phenomenal and guys lets not forget Kumar I think he was also very impressive specially with his inswinging deliveries to right hand batsmen. In my opinion Irfan has to learn more tricks because at this point in time he is relaying on his pace and bounce only. He is cramping the batsmen which is good to stop runs but not good enough to take wickets because he is at the mercy of batsmen error in shot selection whereas Khan and Kumar both produce wicket taking deliveries. Both are confusing the batsmen because they are able to move the ball in both directions. Khan is slightly more lethal because of his pace. At the moment Khan is bowling between 140km to 143km whereas Kumar is between 128km to 131km.... The extra pace of Khan makes it more difficult for batsmen to play him.....

Guys I would just like to say well played Pakistan, you deserved these wins. Your team worked as a unit, and has a lot of talent as is evident. Unlike the Indian team which I am afraid is ripe with infighting and internal politics, and a self centered approach. Dhoni, should have left some forms of captaincy to others, possible successors perhaps the T20 at the very least, Virendra Sehwag should have been let go and also Gautam Gambhir. For all the money our team makes I do not understand why our bowlers look like match sticks, for god sake guys you are sports men you should invest in your fitness. I just wish we could have given you guys a better fight. Hopefully we will learn from this. Anyway well done Pakistan.

Flat tracks are favourable to batsmen only. I mean sehwag, kohli, Yuvraj, Gautam etc.etc. If a bowler is cleaning them up on flat tracks then that says a lot about the skills of bowler. Got it! This is the problem with India. When they are thrashed on bouncy tracks, they cry foul. They cannot handle seaming conditions and worst they cannot even handle their own conditions. I mean " flat track bullies". Come this IPL you shall see these morons scoring runs on those tracks. Thanks for not inviting our players. Look what they have achieved by not playing IPL.

Fully with you Syed. This win deserves celebration. We would have done the same irrespective of future/past results. We only wonder, that both countries have more or less similar situation, have similar physical strenght etc etc. Then how come Pak produces worlds best bowlers and India-average. I am sure that our Pundits don't give a damn shit as they are sitting on Cash-Piles. Well done Pak. Enjoyed the result.

While I appriciate the pakistani bowler's talent, it would be better if you don't overrate them. Consistency and control is needed in long run and we have to see how they perform in future. I have some serious doubt about Irfan, after the first match his performance was not very good. Junaid Khan looks ok, but he is able to refine is talent is yet to be seen.

They were tired in England , and then against England and Pakistan in India and now will be against England in India. They will be ready and refreshed only after winning a series - may be this England series. We all must agree with your simple logic, right big brother? If they were so tired how the hell you are saying it would be 2-3, wouldn't be it 4-1. And, it will make them so tired to come out in the ground for 6th one if it was 6 match series - ask Kohli who tried his best while being tired against Junaid - we call it "gunda kar kay out kiya" ....

they need to play against good bowling attacks to get back into rhythm , not mediocre IPL folks. They have so many beautiful ground, I would love to see good/bouncy bowling pitches there, at least for tests.
