KARACHI: Secretary General of Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf (PTI) Arif Alvi has said his party will welcome the long march of Dr Tahirul Qadri if it brings about electoral reforms within the constitutional parameters but without delaying the elections. However, Dr Qadri’s suggestions for electoral reforms are vague.

Addressing a press conference at the Karachi Press Club on Friday, Mr Alvi said his party opposed the present system but not the Constitution. The Constitution would help in replacing the obsolete system through elections.

He made it abundantly clear that the PTI would not participate in the planned long march.

People were frustrated and wanted to replace the present rulers with those who could deliver. That was why they were turning up at public meetings of various political parties in large numbers, he said.

He said the PTI too was striving for electoral reforms since the last two years and a petition in this regard was pending in the Supreme Court.

Earlier, the party’s social media team said the PTI was committed to bringing about positive and constructive changes in the country. They called upon the supporters to strictly adhere to party’s core values of justice, humanity and self-esteem.

The social media team included Imran Ghazali, Arsalan Ghumman and Asad Omar.

Announcing a code of conduct, they said it was in the interest of people to have an open and independent media which could transparently question decisions and functioning of the government and political parties.

They asked the supporters to show respect to media personnel and counter their arguments with dignity and respect instead of attacking or abusing them.
