LAHORE, Oct 26: All Pakistan Textile Mills Association on Saturday urged the federal government to focus on giving the relief of a massive reduction in the price of CNG to those poor people using public transport rather than those consuming the gas while traveling in their own cars/vehicles.

“The industry is watching this development of Supreme Court’s verdict on massive reduction in CNG price. Aptma terms the court decision correct and now it is the government duty to shift this relief to a majority of poor people using public transport being operated on CNG,” Aptma group leader Gohar Ejaz said in a statement on Saturday.

He said as a result of the relief in the gas price, its consumption in cars would increase further, causing more gas shortage to the industry that was already on the verge of destruction due to reduced gas supply.

He said the government would have to devise an effective policy of imposing ban on provision of gas to cars and other private vehicles at all CNG stations and giving this relief to the poor people using public transport alone. He said besides giving gas price reduction relief to the poor, the government should ensure an uninterrupted gas supply to the industry, IPPs, CPPs and Fertiliser plants in order to strengthen economy. — Staff Reporter
