ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday issued a contempt of court notice to Chief Minister Balochistan Aslam Raisani for not following its directions pertaining to relief provision to 2008 earthquake victims in the province, DawnNews reported.

Chief Justice of IHC Iqbal Hameedur Rehman also issued notices to Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Director General Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and Chief Secretary Balochistan.

Chief Justice IHC had on March 14, 2012 given six months time to the federal government to determine the losses of 187 Baloch families who had lost their homes and valuables in the earthquake that hit Balochistan on October 28, 2008, and compensate them in accordance with its policy.

While hearing the petition of one of the affected persons, the court had directed the government to conduct a fresh survey to determine the losses of the families.

Petitioner Syed Saifur Rehman through his counsel Rafiq R. Sanjrani had informed the court that authorities concerned had deprived them of the financial aid announced for the affected families in the province.

He alleged that 187 affected families of village Khanozai in the district of Pishin had not been paid even a single penny out of the fund reserved for the affected people.

The petitioner had claimed that following the earthquake the government had received over Rs2,620 million aid out of which Rs2,000 million had been distributed among the other affected people in the province.
