ISLAMABAD, Sept 27: The government would facilitate Chinese tourists and China has already declared Pakistan a most-favoured destination for its tourists, said a top official of the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation.

PTDC figures show that a total of 27,887 Chinese tourists visited Pakistan in 2010. A majority of the Chinese visited Pakistan either for official purpose or for attending business meetings.

Speaking to newsmen, PTDC MD Mir Shahjahan Khetran said that Pakistan received less than one million foreign tourists in 2010 and earned $306 million. Over 200,000 tourists were from the South Asian region. However, no figures of 2011 and 2012 season are available.

The PTDC official said that he held talks with Chinese investors in tourism and hospitality sector, and invited them to invest in Pakistan’s tourism industry directly or under public-private partnership.

The PTDC is in contact with Chinese organisations and is regularly participating in Beijing International Tourism Expo and Tianjin Travel Exhibition, he said.
