KARACHI: National Assembly’s Standing Committee for Ports and Shipping summoned an explanation from the chief of the Port Qasim Authority (PQA) after taking notice of the shipment of diseased Australian sheep, DawnNews reported.

The PQA chief was asked to present his explanation pertaining to the issue at the next session of the Standing Committee, which is to be held tomorrow.

The meat exporters say that the facts pertaining to the issue of the Australian sheep must be brought to light as soon as possible.

The exporters also say that due to the presence of the diseased sheep in the country, the Pakistani meat industry is under immense pressure as meat exports have decreased greatly.

A Bahraini company has completely stopped all meat orders from Pakistan, whereas Iran has suspended its meat purchases from Pakistan.

The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday issued a stay order until the next hearing in response to a petition filed against the culling of Australian sheep allegedly sick with anthrax
