KARACHI: A worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was seriously wounded and two other persons also suffered injuries in a gun attack in Baldia Town on Sunday night.

Earlier in the day, an activist of defunct People’s Amn Committee was shot dead and his associate was wounded at Balida Town No 4.

Police said the incident took place within the remit of the Saeedabad police station, where a joint unit-in-charge of Baldia Town, Arshad Qureshi, and two others were targeted by assailants.

Arshad Qureshi was standing at a shop when targeted by gunmen riding a motorcycle. Two other men present at the shop were also wounded in the firing.

The police said apparently Mr Qureshi was the target of the attackers.

The injured were rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where they were admitted for treatment.

The wounded joint unit in-charge was referred to the Aga Khan Hospital from the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Quoting hospital sources, police said the victim had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest.

Panic gripped different localities of Baldia Town, where shops and markets were closed amid intermittent firing.
