ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Monday summoned registrar of the Supreme Court Dr Faqeer Hussain on July 25 and Arsalan Iftikhar, son of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on July 26 after Arsalan did not appear before the Joint investigation team (JIT) today, NAB spokesman said.

Earlier, Arsalan Iftikhar, Salman Ahmed (son-in-law of Malik Riaz) and his business partner Ahmed Khalil excused to appear before the JIT of NAB.

NAB had summoned Arsalan, Ahmed and Khalil today to record their testimonies at the NAB headquarter.

Riaz’s son-in law Salman Ahmed informed the NAB that he could not come to Pakistan as his life was at threat in the country. However, his testimony could be recorded abroad, the NAB spokesman said.

Khalil informed the accountability bureau that he was having medical treatment in Germany and could appear before the JIT, the spokesman added.

The summons have been issued to SC’s registrar and Arsalan Iftikhar for their respective hearings on July 25 and 26, NAB spokesman said.

Arsalan has excused appearing before the JIT because he had reservations with Attorney General Irfan Qadir and with the NAB investigation team.

Arsalan in his earlier petition had said that “The attorney general has misinterpreted the court’s verdict and the team formed by the NAB is illegal.”

“The chief of investigation team Kausar Iqbal has a shady past and he lives in Bahria Town…the Superintendent Police of Islamabad, who is also part of the team, was a close associate of Malik Riaz,” the petition added.

Meanwhile, the chairman of Bahria town Malik Riaz had recorded his testimony before the JIT on Friday.

Was absolutely expected - in a country where a vast majority is holier than thou & everyone of those believes that only his/her interpretation of Islam is the right one.

I don’t know why SC & NAB is not taking a quick action against the Mr. Arsalan Iftikhar because he is not serious in this matter, even then the other party members (Salman Ahmed, Khalil )want to record their statements.

Although I live in Canada, I closely follow both Pakistani and world media regarding happenings in Pakistan. In politics, things are not what they seem. The same is true for Pakistan's judiciary as one thing is very apparent; judiciary is now deeply involved in politics. I do not support any of the political parties in Pakistan but it seems that Supreme Court is now the legal wing of PML (N). The proof lies in the fact that certain cases are being persued on priority and certain cases have been placed on back burner. Peple talk about corruption in politics, it is time to look for corruption in the highest court of the country.

Dear Mr. Abbasi, It is not a proven fact that Caliph Omer's son commited adultery. This is only mentioned in some un-authenticated accounts. However he was guilty of consuming alcohol and was punished by Hazrat Umer. We need to check our facts before commenting.

Son's refusal to appear before the JIT of NAB calls for a Sou-moto Action from CJ.

Father is apparently doing justice vigorously son is running for justice, strange. Both father and son must look within before looking without, this incoherence will be eliminated automatically. This dichotomy of father doing justice and son running for justice is the direct result of going away from their centre and remain focused on periphery. Weird situation for father and son. Father is lecturing literally every one to surrender before the process of law and the son is still reluctant to surrender. Let me quote here the old adage, to solicit my point, that charity begins at home whereas in the case of Arsalan (son) it comes out quite clearly that charity must begin at farthest point and must remain at from where it began.

Malik Riaz is questionable character and has bought many corrupt officials with his scammed money. Arsaln is running from Riaz and his gang and not from justice.

" Father and Son " in a chorus is being orchestrated to tarnish the image of Judiciary and CJ.in Pakistan. If Dr. Arsalan Iftikhar is involved in money minting scam it is solely his own wrong doing. As far the 'Father' is concerned he called both Malik Riaz and Iftikhar on Sou-Moto and step down from the bench at the behest of attorney general Irfan Qadir. In history, you find two precedents,Prophet Noah's own son did not opt for the right path, secondly Caliph Omer's son was found guilty of adultery and was duly punished. Why so hue and cry before the outcome of the case?Hamid Abbasi

I am not saying Arsalan is innocent or guilty but certainly his reservations about the JIT, Their shady past is very questionable and against the rule of transparency.
