ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Monday summoned registrar of the Supreme Court Dr Faqeer Hussain on July 25 and Arsalan Iftikhar, son of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on July 26 after Arsalan did not appear before the Joint investigation team (JIT) today, NAB spokesman said.

Earlier, Arsalan Iftikhar, Salman Ahmed (son-in-law of Malik Riaz) and his business partner Ahmed Khalil excused to appear before the JIT of NAB.

NAB had summoned Arsalan, Ahmed and Khalil today to record their testimonies at the NAB headquarter.

Riaz’s son-in law Salman Ahmed informed the NAB that he could not come to Pakistan as his life was at threat in the country. However, his testimony could be recorded abroad, the NAB spokesman said.

Khalil informed the accountability bureau that he was having medical treatment in Germany and could appear before the JIT, the spokesman added.

The summons have been issued to SC’s registrar and Arsalan Iftikhar for their respective hearings on July 25 and 26, NAB spokesman said.

Arsalan has excused appearing before the JIT because he had reservations with Attorney General Irfan Qadir and with the NAB investigation team.

Arsalan in his earlier petition had said that “The attorney general has misinterpreted the court’s verdict and the team formed by the NAB is illegal.”

“The chief of investigation team Kausar Iqbal has a shady past and he lives in Bahria Town…the Superintendent Police of Islamabad, who is also part of the team, was a close associate of Malik Riaz,” the petition added.

Meanwhile, the chairman of Bahria town Malik Riaz had recorded his testimony before the JIT on Friday.
