THIS is apropos of Dr Jahanzeb Effendi’s and Riaz Qureshi’s letter on ‘Driver’s licence’. I also went to get my driving licence renewed at the police driving licence office in Clifton.

I was made to stand in glaring sunshine outside a shanty which did not have any proper lights. A person holding a stick in his hand asked me to read the last line of an eye-testing chart.

On reading it, he promptly failed me. I protested the procedure adopted by the doctor, as the lighting was so bad that I could hardly read anything.

I informed him that the optometrist at Aga Khan Hospital had said that my visions for both long and short distance were perfect after testing my eyes.

I was asked to go to the police hospital located in the Garden area. The doctor there was extremely polite. After testing my eyesight, he said that my vision was perfect.

I regret having paid Rs500 for an eye test at the police driving licence office. Besides, I wasted so much time and energy by going there.

The officers responsible for taking photos in the same office were not only cooperative but also helpful in rechecking the entries contained in my driving licence.

I request the authorities concerned to appoint a qualified optometrist, install proper eye-testing equipment along with proper lighting inside a room meant for testing eyes.

Besides, the police driving licence department is charging extremely high renewal fee which should be minimised.
