THIS is apropos of the letter ‘Discovery of Higgs boson’ (July 14) by Robert J. Charles. The writer is outraged at the horrible treatment meted out to the scientist and the Nobel Prize winner Dr Abdus Salam by us. I would sadly say that we judge a person not on his achievements and contents of his character but on his religious beliefs.

That is why we are we are. We used to be a tolerant nation, our Chief justice used to be christian and what a true christian he was. We, as a nation have failed our heros and embraced the likes of Taleban.

It is sad but the truth is that, "we judge a person not on his achievements and contents of his character but on his religious beliefs" Do we Pakistanis really deserve to survive as a civilized Muslim nation?

The treatment meted out to Dr Abdus Salam is Pakistan is indeed very sad! and it also says volumes about recognition and respect for education, learning and scholarship in the country. As Faiz Ahmed Faiz wrote:
"Zard patton ka bun jo merar des hai...."

I am still looking some thing good coming out of us as a nation. We made mockery of our religion. We are hypcrite in our beliefs and what we practice in real life. Our faces do not reflect what we are at our heart. This is the dilemma of our society which has no habit of reading and understing of religion by themselves. They depend their guidance to our Mullahs and belive what ever they are told.
