LAHORE, July 8: Gunmen beat up an elderly man and took away cash and valuables worth over Rs3 million from a house in Garden Town on Sunday, police said.

Four robbers barged into the house of Shahzada Hakimul Mulk in Tariq Block, held the family at gunpoint and looted Rs400,000 and 50 tolas of gold ornaments and other valuables.

The suspects thrashed Mr Mulk when he offered resistance.

In other incidents, some robbers stormed into the house of Khalil Ahmad in Garhi Shaho and took away cash and valuables worth Rs1.2 million.

Some robbers burst into the house of Arshad in Misri Shah police limits and escaped after looting cash and valuables worth Rs1 million.

Gunmen struck the house of Jamshaid in Sattokatla police remits and looted cash and valuables valued at Rs800,000.

SHOT DEAD: An unidentified man in his 30s was gunned down by unidentified motorcyclists near Gulshan Iqbal Park on Sunday evening.

Quoting witnesses, Iqbal Town SHO Aamir Sohail Kaifi said some motorcyclists shot the victim soon after he came out of the park at 8:15pm.

He said the victim suffered at least four gunshot wounds on his leg and near his testicles and was fatally injured. He was transported to Jinnah Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds.

The SHO said the deceased was identified as Muhammad Husain of Thokar Niaz Baig. He said the body had been shifted to morgue for autopsy and investigation had been launched.
