TIMERGARA, June 29: Senior English teachers of Lower Dir on Friday held a protest demonstration against the provincial government for not promoting them.

The demonstrators led by chairman of the All Senior English Teachers Association, Lower Dir chapter, Abdul Khaliq, marched from the EDO office to the Timergara Press Club.

Addressing the participants at the press club, Abdul Khaliq, Sahibzada Sadiq Jan and others said that SET cadre had been the back bone in the process of teaching and learning but the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had totally ignored it.

They said the government had promised teachers’ community that all cadres of teachers would be given promotion under the time-scale formula but the SETs were excluded from the plan. “Instead of time-scale approval the government announced only upgradation of some cadres,” said Mr Khaliq, adding SET teachers would strongly resist this decision at every forum.

They warned to also boycott duties during next general elections if their demand was not met by the government.

ARREST OF KILLERS: Brother of a grade 9 student, Anwar Zeb, who was killed by some local youth during a cricket match in Munda, on Friday, demanded of the IGP, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and DIG Malakand to take notice of the killing and direct local police to arrest the killers.

Talking to journalists at the Timergara Press Club, Jehan Zeb, the brother of the deceased, said two months ago his brother was killed by unknown persons during broad daylight while playing cricket with his friends.

He said Munda police had registered a case under 302 CrPc against the alleged killers but so far no arrest had been made. He said the killers were warning the family of dire consequences.
