LAHORE, June 21: Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Health Khwaja Salman Rafiq says Sheikh Zayed Hospital will be further expanded and a 300-bed new block will be constructed.

Presiding over a meeting during his visit to the hospital on Thursday, he said capacity of liver transplant ward was being enhanced for which the provincial government was providing Rs160 million.

Health Secretary Arif Nadeem, Additional Secretary (Development) Moazzam Usman, SZH Chairman Prof Dr Zafar Iqbal, Prof Nauman and other officers attended the meeting.

The meeting also considered needs for the establishment of proposed Hajvari Institute of Organ Transplant and also discussed in detail its technical aspects.

Salman Rafiq said the liver transplant ward in Sheikh Zayed Hospital was being expanded and hoped that due to its expansion, the target of one liver transplant in a week would be achieved.

He said keeping in view the increasing medical needs, a 300-bed new block would be constructed in SZH, and all wards of medical and surgical would be available in the new block where modern treatment facilities would be provided.

Earlier, Salman along with Arif Nadeem visited various wards of the hospital and reviewed the treatment facilities being provided to the patients.

He expressed his determination that the government would run SZH in a more efficient manner.
