ISLAMABAD, June 9: The rich cultural heritage is the only tool through which we can effectively present Pakistan’s soft image to the outside world.

It was stated by Speaker National Assembly Fehmida Mirza at the concluding ceremony of the week-long celebrations of Pakistan week organised by Ministry of National Heritage and Integration in collaboration with Lok Virsa at Pak-China Friendship Centre.

She stressed the need for holding such events of national significance in future as well saying: “They provide an interactive exchange of experiences and ideas to the traditional practitioners from across the country and facilitate them to make innovations in their products according to modern day requirements. At the same time, they greatly help inculcate awareness among the younger generation about the true identity and diversity of the culture and heritage”.

Earlier, Federal Minister for National Heritage and Integration Mrs. Samina Khalid Ghurki said: “The country needs to be united as a nation which is rich in heritage, blessed with harmony accommodating different cultures, creeds and colours. In order to give a message of true peaceful and harmonious face of Pakistan, we need to unite ourselves”.

Federal Secretary, Ministry of National Heritage and Integration Asif Ghafoor and Executive Director, Lok Virsa, Khalid Javaid were also present on the occasion.

The major features of the Pakistan week celebrations included an exhibition of cultural heritage, art & craft bazaar, folkloric song and dance performances, cultural evenings, traditional floats representing all federating units, stage plays, on-the-spot activities and special attractions for families and children.—A Reporter
