Missing boy found murdered

GUJAR KHAN, May 25: The body of a teenage boy, who had been missing for four days, was found lying in a cave near his village Mohrah Bhuttian on Friday.

Mohammad Altaf had lodged a complaint with Gujar Khan police that his son Mohammad Rameez, 14, had been missing for four days. On Friday, the body of the boy was found and shifted to THQ hospital. — Correspondent

One killed on road

TAXILA, May 25: A man was killed and two others injured in a road accident on G. T. Road near Margalla Hills on Friday.

National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) sources said three men, residents of Losar Sharfoo village, were going to Rawalpindi in their car.

When they reached near Margalla Hills, their vehicle went out of control due to  speeding and overturned. Usman Javaid died on the spot while Shah Jehan and Saeed Nawaz were injured. — Correspondent

Teenage ‘rapist’ held

MUZAFFARABAD, May 25: Local police on Friday arrested a teenager for sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl near here the other day.

His elder brother was also arrested allegedly for removing evidence of the crime. The incident occurred in Barura village to the south of Muzaffarabad city on Thursday afternoon, but the police came to know about it late in the evening after receiving a call from the Shaikh Zayed hospital where the victim was brought.

SSP Muzaffarabad Sardar Gulfaraz Khan told Dawn that the police recorded the statement of the victim’s father in the hospital at around 10pm and registered a case.

He said the girl – K – was sent by her parents to bring milk from a nearby house when a neighbour, N, 19, molested her, while the offender’s elder brother, Z, removed her bloodstained clothes.

The ill-fated girl’s father hailed from Swat but he had been working as a labourer in the fields of a local person for the last ten years. — Staff Correspondent

Six grader ‘assaulted’

ISLAMABAD, May 25: A six grader was allegedly subjected to rape at knife point in capital’s rural area on Friday, police said.

Sihala police registered a case against unidentified person in response to the complaint lodged by the victim.

The victim – MY – told police that an unidentified man intercepted her while she was going home and forcibly took her to a wooded area in Model Town at knife point where she was subjected to rape. The police also visited the area to collect evidence and were waiting for the medical report. — Staff Reporter

Memorial reference

ISLAMABAD, May 25: A memorial reference was held in honour of D. Shah Khan, the late journalist, at the Institute of Regional Studies (IRS) here on Friday. He passed away on April 30, 2012.

In his address of welcome, the IRS president appreciated his services for the freedom of press.

Speaking on the occasion, Bashir Ahmed, a senior researcher, said D. Shah Khan was an inspirational figure for the youngsters.

Nasir Zaidi, senior journalist, recalled his services as a scholar and editor working for various important national dailies such as Chittagong Chronicle, Outlook, The News and The Muslim. Khalid Malik, another senior researcher who had worked with D. Shah Khan, said he believed in training the young colleagues and was an encouraging and inspiring figure to work with. — A Reporter
