ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Wednesday said that economic stability of the country was directly linked with the political stability.

Talking to media representatives in front of Parliament House after attending a rally of Radio Pakistan employees, she said that unfortunately certain media houses predict fall of the present political system daily. Such type of journalism is not in the national interest and is affecting the national economy, she added.

To a question, she said the prime minister was an elected representative of the masses and procedure for his removal had been written in the constitution. The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) will follow the constitution in this regard, she added.

She said that the PPP respected the courts and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani was contesting his case in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, but the media was holding his trial, which should be stopped.

Replying to a question, she said that the government was striving to provide relief to the common man, control inflation and increase in prices of daily use items.

She said that the regularisation of employees of public sector organisations, who were also Pakistani nationals, was part of the government’s efforts to provide relief to the people.
