ISLAMABAD, March 18: The Islamabad police have sought record of phone calls made by Dr Hafiz Abdul Rasheed, the director of Dawa Academy and an official of Maktab-i-Dawa (religious office) of Saudi embassy’s sub-office, who was murdered in his residence here on Saturday.

The police could not trace the vehicle of the deceased in which the suspects managed to flee though there was a security alert in the federal capital in connection with the President’s address to the joint sitting of parliament on Saturday.

Police investigating officer of the case, Sub Inspector Asjad told Dawn that their initial investigation had not led them to any conclusion as who was behind the murder of the religious scholar. “So it has been decided to get the data of the cellphone of the deceased which can be helpful in tracing his killers,” he added.

Dr Rasheed was strangled at his residence located in street No 90, sector I-10/1, allegedly by his two visitors who had come to meet him posing themselves as his students. They also took away cash, ATM card and the victim’s car (ICT-SA-178).

The IO said people kept visiting the house on Sunday due to which the police could not record proper statement of the deceased’s son, Syed Azhar. He said there was a possibility that the suspects had fled to Rawalpindi after the incident.—A Reporter
