CNG kit installer to pay damages

Published October 12, 2007

LAHORE, Oct 11: The district consumer court has directed a CNG-kit installer to pay a total of Rs160,550 damages to the owner of a jeep for installing a kit not recommended for a 3,000cc vehicle.

The kit installed in the heavy vehicle was found to be fit only for an 800cc vehicle.

Judge Syed Maroof Ahmad Ali, on a petition filed by Imran Saeed of Shahdara, observed that various gadgets of the jeep of the petitioner were damaged because the respondent installed substandard and locally-made parts in the CNG-kit.

The judge also observed that the parts used in the kit were found defective and were not in conformity to the express warranty given by respondent Salim Qadir Khan, owner of FTFS CNG Kit Installation Co.

Holding the respondent liable for providing faulty service to the petitioner and giving false, deceptive misleading representation, the court directed the former to refund Rs58,000 he had charged for kit installation while the petitioner would return the kit.—Staff Reporter
