MUZAFFARABAD, Jan 25: At least four members of a family were injured when Indian troops resorted to shelling in Azad Kashmir on Friday, police said.

The Indian forces resorted to shelling with mortars and machine-guns at 10:30am and continued for about three hours targeting the Charhoi sector in Kotli district, police said.

A mortar shell landed on the rooftop of a house in Sabazkot village, injuring Siddiqa, 55, wife of Mohammad Yaqoob; Nuzat Shaheen, 18, and Nusrat Shaheen, 16, daughters of Yaqoob; and Mohammad Iqbal, son of Feroz. They were given treatment by military doctors.

Police said the shelling stopped when Pakistan Army retaliated.

The exchange of fire along the Line of Control occurred after a lull since Jan 14. Military officials attribute the silence to heavy snowfall.
