KARAK: Stick-wielding women took to the streets in Takht-i-Nusrati on Wednesday to protest the lack of basic facilities, including supply of drinking water and gas, and excessive power outages.

The protesters chanted slogans against the elected representatives for their failure in provision of amenities.

The protestors led by former women councillor Nawab Jana said there was no gas in the area and they were forced to use firewood in hot weather for cooking meal.

They regretted that SNGPL had made commitment regarding provision of legal gas connections to the consumers, but to no avail.

The women also blasted the authorities for subjecting the areas to more than 18 hours of power loadshedding in the scorching heat.

They said the power outages had caused acute water shortage.

Later, the DSP and SHO of Takht-i-Nusrati police station reached the spot to negotiate with the women to open the road.

The women protesters reopened the road on the assurance that their problems would be resolved.
