TAXILA: The faculty members of the Comsats University Wah Cantt and Attock campuses on Wednesday boycotted not only academic activities but scheduled examination at their respective campuses, seeking regularisation of their services.

Scores of faculty members were demanding job security, medical insurance, timely promotions and merger of ad hoc allowances.

Due to the protest, examinations of thousands of students have been cancelled.

The protesting faculty members while talking to newsmen said their counterparts at different campuses across the country had been demanding regularisation of their jobs for long, but without success.

They were of the view that the administration was also headed by ad hoc setup as the ministry of Science and Technology has failed to appoint permanent rectors at the two campuses.

“They also said a large number of faculty members have no job security despite serving the university for decades and their contracts could be terminated at any stage of their service,” one of the faculty members said.

He was of the view that the Academic Staff Association and the administration held several rounds of talks to avoid exam boycott but all efforts remained fruitless leaving the faculty members with no option but to protest and boycott ongoing spring semester examination.

“We will not end our boycott till fulfillment of our demands,” he said.
