KARACHI: Six members of a family fell unconscious in Ahsanabad on Thursday apparently after consuming poisonous food, officials said.

They said a man approached the Ahsanabad police post early in the morning, saying that he had found his sister and her five children lying unconscious after he visited her home.

“The police party accompanied the man and found six people, including a woman, her two sons and three daughters, unconscious,” said Sub-Inspector Shabbir Ahmed, in-charge of the police post. “We called the ambulance and moved the family to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. They were identified as 45-year-old Kanwal, 24-year-old Hira, 22-year-old Sania, 20-year-old Rabil, 17-year-old Gul Hasan and 15-year-old Shiraz. The doctor suspected that they had consumed food at dinner which contained toxic substance.
