LAHORE: Following Lahore High Court’s direction, the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) imposed on Monday fine on 21 visitors for littering the fort.

The authority has also constituted special teams and tasked them with taking action against all those littering the heritage sites in the provincial capital.

The WCLA, according to the director (marketing and social mobilisation), has also displayed boards at various heritage sites, including the Lahore Fort, inscribed with the [warning] messages for the public at large in this regard.

“We have launched a drive against the people littering our heritage sites. Initially we are imposing a fine of Rs100 on each visitor (if found littering) under the court orders. However, we will gradually increase this,” WCLA Director (Marketing and Social Mobilisation) Asif Zaheer told Dawn.

“A couple of days back we had also fined six visitors for littering the royal trail,” he added.

“We are aggressively working on keeping the [heritage] site clean and officials have been asked to inform the tourists about it. We are also taking measures to support the ‘Clean Green Pakistan’ campaign launched by the prime minister,” the director said.

ARRESTED: A city administration’s team got arrested a local landlord for flouting Section 144 under which the burning of crops’ residue has been banned to avert smog in the Punjab capital.

According to a spokesman, the team headed by the Shalimar AC visited Minhala village and got arrested landowner Allah Ditta for burning rice crop waste in his field. The team also got an FIR lodged against the suspect.
