ACCORDING to the weekly statement of position of all scheduled banks for the week ended Aug 3, 2018 deposits and other accounts of all scheduled banks stood at Rs12,533.176 billion after a 0.14 per cent decrease over the preceding week’s figure of Rs12,551.434bn.

Compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs11,620.410bn, the current week’s figure was higher by 7.85pc.

Deposits and other accounts of all commercial banks stood at Rs12,470.128bn against preceding week’s deposits of Rs12,484.235bn, showing a fall of 0.11pc. Deposits and other accounts of specialised banks stood at Rs65.047bn, smaller by 3.20pc against previous week’s figure of Rs67.199bn.

Borrowings decrease by 0.14pc; deposits fall by 0.11pc

Total assets of all scheduled banks stood at Rs17,978.584bn, larger by 1.85pc over preceding week’s figure of Rs17,651.407bn. Current week’s figure is higher by 11.18pc compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs16,169.455bn.

Total assets of all commercial banks stood at Rs17,738.654bn, larger by 1.91pc over previous week’s figure of Rs17,405.004bn, while total assets of specialised banks at Rs239.930bn were smaller by 2.62pc over the previous week’s Rs246.402bn.

Borrowings by all scheduled banks showed a rise in the week under review. It rose by 12.24pc to Rs3,189.554bn against previous week’s Rs2,841.612bn. Compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs2,454.083bn, current week’s figure is higher by 29.96pc.

Borrowings by commercial banks in the week at Rs3,099.790bn were higher by 12.74pc against previous week’s Rs2,749.374bn. Borrowings by specialised banks stood at Rs89.764bn against the previous week’s figure of Rs92.237bn.

Investments of all scheduled banks stood at Rs8,128.278bn against preceding week’s figure of Rs7,785.159bn, larger by 4.40pc. Compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs8,078.540bn, current week’s figure is larger by 0.61pc.

Investments by all commercial banks stood at Rs8,082.202bn, higher by 4.49pc against preceding week’s figure of Rs7,734.630bn, whereas investment by all specialised banks stood at Rs46.075bn against preceding week’s figure of Rs50.529bn.
