LAHORE: Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Friday summoned former Lahore CCPO Amin Wains and former superintendent of police Umar Virk to explain their alleged role in brokering a forced agreement between two parties in a case.

Two widows of Sheikh Ajmal had filed applications accusing the police officers of selling business entities of their husband through a forced agreement between the claimants.

Additional Inspector General of Police Abu Bakar Khuda Bakhsh also told the chief justice that the former CCPO unlawfully ensured an agreement between the parties and Umar Virk assisted the whole process. He said the IGP had been recommended registration of a case against both police officers.

Chief Justice Nisar observed that mere registration of a case would not serve any purpose and said the matter apparently required a reference to be made by the National Accountability Bureau. The chief justice directed Wains and Virk to appear in person on Saturday (today).

REPORT: TheCJP alsosought a report from the IGP about investigation into alleged theft of Nalain Pak (slipper) of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) from the gallery of Badshahi Mosque.

The chief justice passed the order on an application moved by Pir S.A Jafri, questioning inefficiency of the government authorities to fix responsibility of the incident.

The applicant told the chief justice that he had filed a number of applications to the authorities concerned since the incident of theft took place in 2002 but no serious action had been taken so far except registration of an FIR.

The chief justice expressed concern over the non-recovery of the slipper even after the lapse of 16 years. He directed the Punjab IGP to apprise the court of progress in the investigation of the theft.
