KARACHI: A 70-year-old man committed suicide after killing his 65-year-old wife in Surjani Town on Tuesday, police said.

They added that the bodies of Haji Mumtaz and Hayat Bibi were found in their Yousuf Goth home in the small hours of the day when his son returned home with his family. The police found the licensed pistol of Mumtaz at the crime scene which was used in the shooting and casings of spent bullets.

“The couple had four children, all married,” said Inspector Mohammad Shakeel, the SHO of the Surjani Town police station. “Their daughter is settled with her family in Multan while his two sons are living separately in other areas of Karachi. Their youngest son, who is father of three, was living with his parents. He told the police that he had left home in the evening with his family to meet some relatives in connection with Eid festivities and returned in the early hours of Wednesday to find the bodies of his parents lying in a pool of blood.”

The victims’ son, the SHO Surjani Town said, told the police about the incident who shifted the bodies to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities. He said that after initial investigation the police found reasons to believe that Mumtaz had killed his wife before committing suicide.
