TIMERGARA: The department of computer science and information technology of the University of Malakand has launched a smartphone application for visually impaired persons to help them guide to their destination.

The app was launched at a function chaired by UoM dean Prof Rashid Ahmad. Faculty members, administration staff and students attended the ceremony.

Chairman computer science department Prof Sehatullah, while introducing the application, said the navigator would help the visually impaired people safely find their destination.

He said it was the varsity’s research production that was part the National Information Communication Technology Research and Development-funded project of the ministry of information technology and telecommunications. He said after the successful introduction of the app the varsity staffers visited various schools for visually impaired students and got feedback from them about the navigator.

Prof Rashid Ahmad lauded the efforts of the computer science department and said the development in information technology and telecommunication had made the world a global village.

He said the varsity would continue research in information technology.
